About How to Draw Manga

Creativity and imagination are the attributes that are revered and the most sought after in all the cultures and the parts of the world. In Japan, the artists who pursue to become the manga artists are highly respected for the same reasons. Manga is the Japanese style of sketching the cartons which is unique in its own way and has different approaches and the techniques that need be mastered to understand this art.

The artists who would like to try at the manga art need to observe the work of the other manga artists and the manga images in detail, to be thorough in their characteristics. The artists need to be drawn not only to the physical attributes of the manga characters, but also need to understand the personality traits of these characters as well in order to bring to life the realistic fictional characters that will reflect to the world their signature thought process and experiences.
The better a person has the grip on the understanding of these traits the easier will it be for them to portray them in the various scenarios. One of the best features of the manga characters is that they are utterly adorable as they have huge eyes, small mouth and a peculiar almond shaped face, which gives all the characters a universal look. The only way to distinguish one character from other is by elaborating the details related to their dressing, their preferences in accessories and the way they style themselves.

Like discussed earlier, the basic understanding of the manga characters emerges from understanding the personality traits and the physical attributes, as the appearance for almost all the figures is the same, one will only need to master to draw smooth and flawless basic shapes. To give a unique to the face, the artists can experiment with the hair styles, their color, length and texture along with the accessories. Since, most of the characters are featured to have long hair; one will need to make use of the sharp drawing tools to produce the fine and distinct lines that will reflect the hair of the character.

What adds to the charisma and the aura of the personalities of the manga characters is their elaborate clothes which are almost always complemented by scarves and cloaks etc. which seem to twirl around even when the characters are involved in the intense fight scenes. There is another differentiating factor among the manga characters and that depends on the type of the weapons that they carry around. Most of them can be observed carrying around the swords and the beautiful draggers which not only help in giving a unique look to these cartoon characters, but also, can be used as an effective tool during the fights for defense or attack.

Manga: Five Things You'll Love About It

1. It's In Book Form.
If you're like me and you prefer comics to actual reading, then Manga is your thing. I often get weird looks when I say I don't like reading, I mean I'm relatively intelligent, but when you say you don't like reading you're automatically though of as an idiot. So I have to force my self to do something that I think is mind-numbingly boring, and that's where Manga comes in. Ha ha ha! Now I can read comic books in book form! Now I can read comics and people will just assume I am reading a book! Take that books!

2. Two Versions.
Normally Manga is the first format a story comes in. What I mean is if a Manga if fairly popular it will be turned in to an anime. Now this is normally done half way through the Manga so we often get similar or even identical stories at the beginning, and then sometimes they branch off becoming completely different. So which one is better, the manga or the anime? Many people say the Manga is always better, but there are times when the anime is better or the Manga is. For example, I always thought the Manga for Fullmetal Alchemist was way to depressing and then I watched the first anime adaptation, and it was funny, heart warming, still depressing, but much better in my opinion. Then they made another anime adaptation closer to the manga. And let me tell you AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH I will never be the same again! It was so depressing. But then you get Mangas that are better, like Shugo Chara. The ending for Shugo Chara in the anime was terrible, after reading the Manga's ending I was a lot happier and I accepted that as the real ending. What I am saying is it's nice to have two different story bridges, then you get to decide which one to go with if you don't like the other one.

3. The Length.
Western comic books are fairly short with maybe forty pages, graphic novels are a little bit longer, But Manga is book length! I think. Let me go check. It's 160, usually, that may seem like a lot but when you think about the fact that there are only 20 words per page, it gets a little less scary. Manga keeps me entertained for half an hour to about an hour due to how long it is. Not to mention it costs less than an ordinary book though that depends on what Manga you buy. But I always thought the price was worth it, and don't be afraid to buy something you have never heard of, unless you father is paying for it. Thank you Daddy!

4. Interesting Protagonists
Normally in western comic books you get gritty middle-aged men. Some of us don't want our protagonists to be like that, it's kind of nice to have a character to relate to now and again. (Well actually if you're like me you don't find a character like that very often, maybe Haruhi from Ouran High School Host Club, except I am funnier than her and a bit more cynical.) Or, it's just nice to have a protagonist that's about your age, yay Manga!

5. The Art Style
There are lots of different art styles in this world, you could go the Disney route, or the Mexican, yes they have there own weird way of drawing, their characters look kind of like bratz. Or you could go with manga where as long as you don't have carp lips or spiral glasses you're automatically good looking, hooray for Manga! (Manga where everyone is wonderfully biologically incorrect.) Actually if you want to read something with super girly looking guys then read Manwha, I really can't take Manwha seriously because it's really hard to tell whether a character is girl or guy...or is that really a girl?...I don't think any guy in the world has eyelashes as long as that, no, I have decided it's definitely a girl no mistaking it... Wait. It's a dude?!

Japanese Anime History

Tenjo Tenge is a Japanese Anime and Manga series written by Ogure Ito, also referred to as "Oh Great!", "The Creator" or "Air Gear".

Tenjo Tenge in the story of Souichiro Nagi and Bob Makihara as they enroll in the Todo Academy, a martial arts school where Mitsoumi Takayanagi is the president, with the aim of taking it over. When they realize that the school houses some powerful fighters and cannot be taken over, they join the Juukenbu club, captained by Maya Natsume.
The Tenjou Tenge series focuses on the battle between the Juukenbo club and Mitsoumi Takayanagi, who had murdered Maya Natsume's older brother, Shin Natsume, three years previously.

The Story of Shin Natsume
The story of Shin Natsume, Maya's brother, is told as a flashback over 6 episodes as Maya attempts to explain the history to the newcomers. This is to ensure that viewers and readers have a back story to reference to, as both the Anime and Manga frequently refer to the past.
The anime series continues until just before the "Imperial Arts Tournament", which is hosted by the Todo Academy and where also decide who will be the "President" of the school. The manga series however, continues on well after this.

The manga series show how Mitsoumi recognizes the threat of Souichiro Nagi's power, the ability to take over someone's power during battle, and he then sends fighters against Souichiri. It is only during one of these fights that Souichiro discovers he actually has this special power but that he cannot control it. Souichiro ends up in hospital after the fight with temporary loss of control of his left leg.

The Natsume Sisters
Aya, Maya's sister, falls in love with Souichiro during the first episode, and uses her power, the ability to see into the past or future or see things hundreds of miles away, by spying on him. In the 5th episode, her power is shown for the first time, and it is reavealed that she is probably the strongest fighter of them all, though the only reason she fights is because she wants to become stronger for Souichiro.

The Story in Short
In Tenjo Tenge the main characters such as Maya and Souichiro, have "special" powers, which generally differ from fighter to fighter. It is discovered later in the series, however, that Souichiro has the ability to "take" someone's power after fighting them, and he actually is supposed to become a "demon" in order to defeat them.

Anime and Manga - History Of

The History of Manga starts in the 19th Century. A common misconception made by Westerners is that the term 'manga' simply refers to anime and animated projects. While this is true to a certain extent, the word manga itself actually means 'Comic'.

The first manga appeared early in the 19th Century - in 1814. This was called the Hokusai manga, and consisted of a series of sketchbooks by a Japanese artist named Hokusai. Each sketch in the Hokusai manga is based on various topics including gods, monsters, mountains, flowers, and birds - the sketches were loosely if not at all related to each other.

It is important to remember that at that stage, the images in the Hokusai manga weren't representative of the manga we see today. The Hokusai manga style was that of sketchings, and it wasn't until later, when the influence of the western world set in, that we began to see the drawing style we see in manga today. This was known as Ponchi-e - when Japanese artists began to concentrate on effectively using thick lines, colours, and forms. The era of Ponchi-e also went hand in hand with animated films, and in the 20th Century we saw the first emergence of manga animation - today commonly known as 'anime'.

Animation quickly became very popular in Japan due to the under-developed 'live action' entertainment industry it had at the time. The 1980's saw a boom in production of anime, as mainstream Japan began accepting it more and more readily. In the 1990's and 2000's Japan's anime influence spread overseas, and currently there are anime series' that broadcast almost on a global scale. An example of this is the ever popular Dragon Ball Z anime, which broadcasts all over America, Canada, Australia, South Africa, and Europe.

Today, we see western countries like America becoming more and more enravelled in the jap-anime style of drawing. Safe is it to assume that anime will live on, and the background and history, of anime and manga will spread and diversify due to exposure from western cultures, and the more advanced animation technologies we have today.

Manga - Learning to Draw Manga and Anime

To begin drawing there are a few things you will need first. A positive attitude, a sharp pencil, a big eraser, and some inspiration! Now the only way to really start drawing an anime or manga character is to copy. That's right, copy. Take your favorite anime or manga character and find a drawing of them that you really like. Your first task is to copy the picture. Start by drawing the body; just let your pencil flow.

Once you have copied your favorite characters a few times it is time to create your own! The beauty of drawing is that it is your art. You can draw it however you like, there is no wrong way. It is usually easiest to start with the head. You may want to use visual examples to help you with making character's bodies. A great example to use to draw a female body is a cola bottle or an hourglass if you have one. A male body is like a vertical rectangle. The first step is to make a big bubble for the head, and build off of that. Don't worry about getting it perfect! The point of this messy drawing is to have a foundation to build off of.

Now draw a neck and shoulders. If your character is male his shoulders will be wide, if female she will have dainty shoulders. Now is the chest and arms. Obviously there will be a few differences in a male chest versus female. The arms can be positioned any way you want, but if you are just starting it may be easiest to leave them at the character's sides. Now draw the torso, this is where the examples previously mentioned come in handy. Next the legs, don't forget big hips if your character is a girl! Once you have the body down, start on the details; hands, face, and feet are always the hardest, so you may want to get started on those first.

The second part of drawing, once you have the body down, is clothes! Clothes in anime help to set the character up. Is the character shy, loud, sexy, or wicked? Their clothes usually reflect what kind of character they are. Copying the clothes from your favorite artists is a good way to start on your own style. Look in magazines and the people around you to see real life examples. You can even draw the character in your own clothes if you can't think of anything. The most important part of the clothes are the creases. They bring the character from flat to 2D. Notice where all the folds and creases are in your examples. When you start to draw on your own character this will be an important part of the illustration. Once you are done with the clothes, look over your drawing and pat yourself on the back! I guarantee it will not be perfect, but if you practice, practice, practice, you will only get better!
